Neck pain is increasingly common due to the sedentary way many people live and work. Acute and chronic neck pain are much lesson common however, and persistent pain can become unmanageable or even make your daily life difficult, through a reduction in neck mobility. Most neck pain can be treated easily, with patients able to return back to their normal activities very quickly. What Causes Neck Pain?

Neck pain differs for different patients. For some it is a general discomfort whereas other experience a severe aching or burning pain. Acute neck pain is defined as a sudden onset of intense pain such as a crick in the neck and is often due to trauma, tension or injury. It can also be due to muscular rheumatism.
FullNeck pain which lasts beyond three months is then defined as chronic.

Neck pain can be caused by many things, but the most common causes include:

Stress
Awkward sleeping positions
Injury or trauma such as whiplash
Torticollis
Incorrect posture when sitting or standing/walking
Soft tissue abnormalities often due to injury
Joint or spinal bone abnormalities
Overuse of computer keyboards with improper posture/seating

Diagnosing Neck Pain

Most neck pain can be diagnosed through a frank and thorough discussion of the symptoms, but further testing is sometimes necessary. At the Holistic Pain Management Lab, we will take you through a full medical assessment and examination. We will also discuss your symptoms, medical history and family medical history to rule out and consider any underlying conditions.

In some instances further testing may be necessary and we can arrange additional tests including blood tests, MRI scans, X Rays and ultrasounds, where necessary.
